green friday,3|50.

With all the holiday shopping, preparations, decorations and cooking to be done this time of year, now is the perfect time for a little reminder of the 3/50 project. Pick 3 local businesses.  Spend $50. Save your local economy.

We all know why we shop online, but what about those amazing stores that you love in your town or the local farms that generate produce, meats and cheeses you are proud to serve on your holiday table? Now more than ever they need our support.

For every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other means. In a national chain, only $43 stays here. Online shopping? $0.  And don't get us started on the amount of waste that is generated from all the packaging and shipping materials.

It's time to get back to basics and support local.

Here are three of my favorites to add to your stops this season...

The Bowerbird located in Old Lyme, CT

I can't tell you how many times I have just gotten lost in the glory of this store! There is absolutely nobody you can't find a gift for in this shop. {and make sure to pick up a little something for yourself while you're at it.  you deserve it!}

Four Mile River Farm in Old Lyme, CT

This is THE place to purchase your holiday roasts which are cut special for the holiday season from their family owned farm. Call 860.434.2378 or email amanda@fourmileriverfarm.com to place your order. Just placed mine today!

Organik in Mystic, CT

A great place to find organic + natural gifts for all your loved ones including a large selection of infant items and child toys.

A little extra local love for the holiday season.
Happy shopping!
