green friday, green shower.

I know what you are thinking. You might be willing to jump on the bandwagon of carrying your reusable bags to the grocery store, replacing the bulbs in your home to energy efficient models and maybe even going so far as to give your walls in your home a fresh coat of paint with the newer enviro-friendly, low VOC paints. But replace your SHOWER CURTAINS? Aren't we going a little too far?

No, and I'll tell you why. It is healthier for you and your family to not constantly be breathing in those persistent toxic chemicals that are off-gassed from traditional vinyl shower curtains made from PVC. These toxins build up in your body over time and studies have shown that the accumulation of even small amounts of those toxins in your body can lead to serious health disorders. Need more reasons? How about it is unhealthy for the workers who produce them, unhealthy for the environment and of course not recyclable.

The better choice these days is to replace those moldy, toxic messes with a new curtain made from PEVA. Available anywhere from IKEA to VitaFutura, these curtains are safe, lightweight, easy to clean and don't require a liner. They make wonderful designs especially for kids bathrooms. If you like the look and feel of fabric curtains, try natural fabrics like hemp, organic cotton, bamboo and linen. And chain stores that are found almost everywhere like Bed Bath & Beyond now offer non-toxic liner options.

Making your daily showers and baths safer for you, your family and the environment. Think about it. :)
